The linear modules of KA series are designed for the movement of relatively large loads and they are designed for a large stroke, unlike the other linear modules of Hiwin company, the maximum stroke is 3000mm. The ballscrew or gear belt are used as a leading element. The servomotor or stepper motor are used as the electric drive, there are various options for the motor locations relative to the movement axis. The linear modules of KA series can be used in the packing, labeling, welding, pressing equipment.

Maximum linear speed
The maximum movement speed (V) is determined by RPM (S) (rotations per minute) multiplied by the pitch (L).
V (mm/s) = S (rpm) × 60 × L (mm)

Maximum speed
The maximum permissible speed for the ballscrew is determined by its critical speed. At excess of a latest the vibrations can occur. The critical speed is correlated with the total length of ballscrew. Thus the critical speed determines the effective stroke and the total length of the module. The critical speed of the ballscrew is calculated by the following equation:
Np=0.8×2.71×108 ×Mf dr /Lt2
Np - maximum permissible speed (rpm)
Mf - factor, for different types of KA fixing it's used as a constant Mf = 0,689
dr - internal screw diameter (mm)
Lt - distance between the support bearings (mm)

Acceleration / Braking
The speed is determined by the speed of the movable module (carriage). The movable module is accelerated to reach a given point and slowed down at the approach to it.
The acceleration / braking is programmed by the operator based on the operating conditions. The acceleration for KA series: 0.15G, that is calculated for pitch = 5; 0.3G, that is calculated for others. The value 1G = 9.8mm/s2, thus 0.15G = 1470mm/s2, 0.3G = 2940mm/s2. The maximum load, that is indicated in the catalog, is based on this acceleration / braking.
Attention! Acceleration / braking create inertia. The exceeding of the specified parameters will lead to the impacts and vibration.
Operating cycle
The operating cycle of KA systems is defined by the operator. The operating cycle is calculated from the diagram shown below. The variables include: acceleration time Ta, time of the constant movement speed Tc, braking time Td, idling time Tf.
Acceleration speed = V / Ta.
Braking speed = V / Td.
Operating cycle (s) = Ta + Tc + Td + Tf.
Working time = operating cycle × repeatability.
Utilization ratio = working time / working time + shutdown time.
The utilization ratio is closely linked to the motor load.
Not recommended the exceeding of utilization ratio that is equals to 0.5 on the duration of constant use.
The various factors affect the calculation of the load to KA system. The dynamic load is represented in the catalog (Fy, Fz, Mx, My, Mz) and calculated on the basis of 10000km of the passed distance. To get the correct load level and extend the service life of the module of KA series, the loads must be carefully calculated.
The load falls on the carriage center of the module of KA series. In fact, the load is not on the center, that can lead to slight vibrations and slow response.
To avoid such cases, you need to mount the load as close to the center of the carriage (O) in the ranges (H) that are indicated in the table.

The expected service life depends on the guideway service life in the case of horizontal mounting or tilt angle is less than 30 degrees. When the tilt angle is more than 30 degrees, or mounting is vertical - it depends on the ballscrew and support bearings (depending on whether which element has a shorter service life).
The equivalent dynamic loads (Fy, Fz, Mx, My, Mz) in the catalog are calculated on 10000km of the passed distance. In the case of loads that are below this level (Fy/Fyd + Fz/Fzd + Mx/Mxd + My/Myd + Mz/Mzd ≤ 1), the service life increases and decreases otherwise. It is recommended to adhere of these loads in order to achieve the expected service life of the linear module.
The components requiring the service of KA series: ballscrew, guideway and accessories. Check for debris and dust inside the module every three months or after 100km . The addition of a grease to the ballscrew and guideway is important as well as its change in the case of contamination. Please contact with HIWIN's agent in your region if you have the additional questions about the service of modules.
