The couplings can be selected on the basis of two principles: the principle of achieving the coupling rotation without a backlash and the principle of achieving the required torque.
1. Achieving the coupling rotation without a backlash. To achieve a zero backlash of the rotation in cases when helical couplings are typically used which are capable of absorbing the fluctuations at the transmission of torque, a flexible coupling should be used at relatively low torques. In this case the torque value should be less than the nominal shown in the characteristics table for the flexible couplings. To achieve the backlash-free mode, refer to the table below, showing the characteristics of the flexible element.
2. Achieving the rated torque. The flexible couplings are also used to transmit the required torque. Thus, the flexible couplings are mainly used for the power drives of industrial facilities, for example, for driving pumps, which do not require the condition of accurate transmission of the rotation angle.
