Specifications ballscrews HIWIN

There are many advantages to use a ballscrews of HIWIN company: high efficiency, reversibility, no backlash, high rigidity, high precision movement. A distinctive feature of the ballscrew in comparison with the trapezoidal screw and nut is the availability of the rolling elements between the screw and nut. In this case, we replace the sliding friction to the rolling friction, which greatly improves the mechanical characteristics of the system.

The ballscrews can achieve the efficiency to 90%, due to the presence of the rolling elements between the nut and screw. For this reason, the necessary force for the screw rotating is one-third in comparison with trapezoidal screw of the same diameter. The figure below shows a comparison between the efficiency of the trapezoidal screw and efficiency of the ballscrew. The surface treatment of the ball track of HIWIN's ballscrew reduces friction at the contact between the balls and ball track thereby increasing the transmission efficiency. As a result, it leads to the use of the driving motors of the lower power, that reduces a energy consumption.

Backlash and rigidity (preload) of the ballscrews.

 

The systems with CNC require the use of ballscrews with zero backlash and minimal elastic deformations (with high rigidity). The backlash is eliminated by the use of the ball track profile in the form of a gothic arch and nut preload.

The preload is used often to achieve the high rigidity and precision of positioning for the systems with CNC. But with increase of the preload, the starting torque and friction in the case of working ballscrews are also increased that leads to the heat build-up and reduces the service life. By use of the advanced technology, HIWIN company has achieved the optimizing of all characteristics of the made ballscrews.

High precision

 

For the problems that require high precision of the motion, HIWIN company is able to produce the ballscrews according to the standards ISO, JIS and DIN, which would satisfy the needs of any customer. The precision of each ballscrew is controlled by a special equipment with a laser measurement and it is confirmed by measurements of the output control. Each ballscrew is accompanied by a measurement data (by passport) that are provided to the customer.

Expected (calculated) service life

 

In contrast to the trapezoidal screws, in which the nut and the screw have direct contact, producing a large amount of heat, which leads to rapid wearout and damage, the ballscrews reach their expected lifetime and surpass them when they are used properly. The required lifetime of ballscrews is achieved by the next factors: performance, ballscrew quality, service and the most important factor - the dynamic axial load (C).

The precision of performance, characteristics of materials, surface hardness are the main factors that affect to the dynamic axial load.

It is generally recommended that the ballscrew average service life for a given average statistical dynamic load reached less than 1x106 rpm. The ballscrews of high quality are designed and manufactured in a such way that the value B was 90% (i.e. the probability to achieve the expected service life is 90 %). Furthermore 50% of such ballscrews can exceed those figures from 2 to 4 times.

Low starting torque and smooth motion

 

As the trapezoidal screw and nut have greater inertia, the high starting torque is needed for such transmission to overcome the static friction forces. But for the ballscrews with sliding friction at the movement, a much smaller value of starting torque is required to overcome the frictional forces. HIWIN uses the special technical solutions for creating of the circulation paths and production technology to achieve the required low roughness of the circulation paths. The production technology guarantees that the resulting torque is in strictly specified range.
